Shell Recharge Solutions is a leading provider of electric vehicle (EV) charging infrastructure and services, supporting the transition to cleaner mobility worldwide. As part of Shell’s commitment to a low-carbon future, Shell Recharge Solutions delivers innovative, user-friendly charging solutions for homes, businesses, and public spaces. With a comprehensive network and cutting-edge technology, the company empowers drivers and organisations to embrace sustainable transport, contributing to Shell’s broader ambition of achieving net-zero emissions.
The Challenge
Shell Recharge faced critical operational and commercial challenges as global supply chain disruptions and semiconductor shortages severely compromised its security of supply, leaving the business unable to reliably source essential hardware inventory. These disruptions not only threatened business continuity but also delayed customer deliveries and impacted service performance. Compounding the issue, the company’s unit economics had become uncompetitive—rising input costs and inefficient manufacturing processes resulted in shrinking margins, making it increasingly difficult to remain viable in a fast-moving, price-sensitive EV charging market. A comprehensive turnaround was required to stabilise operations, restore margin performance, and secure a scalable, cost-effective supply model.
Partner Approach
To address Shell Recharge’s supply and cost challenges, a structured, strategic sourcing approach was deployed. First, a comprehensive industry deep dive was conducted to understand market dynamics, benchmark competitors, and identify sustainable sourcing strategies. This was followed by rigorous due diligence on a long list of potential suppliers, narrowing down to a short list of high-potential partners. Each was evaluated on product quality, pricing, and supply chain reliability. The process culminated in the selection of a new strategic supplier that offered superior technology, dependable delivery performance, and significantly improved commercial terms. This shift not only enhanced operational resilience but also unlocked substantial value and positioned the business for world-class efficiency and long-term competitiveness.
